A testimonial from our customer:
Hi Carol
I just wanted to let you know that I received my shipment of roses from Northland Rosarium today. I can't believe they arrived so quickly and in mint condition. I must also say that I was absolutely thrilled when I opened the boxes and saw how big each plant was.
Thanks for the great service! I.L.

Category: Bourbons
The origin of Bourbons took place on what used to be called the Ile de Bourbon (an island east of Madagascar). These varieties are a cross between China Roses and several other varieties, which produce large plants with arching canes. Most varieties bloom continuously, but a few bloom twice a season. They all have a wonderful fragrance and are spectacular in bloom.

Category: Portland
The first Portland rose had its origin in Italy and then was taken to England and France around the year 1800. Approximately 150 varieties were bred. They were similar to the Bourbons, but the plants were smaller and the blooms were nestled in the foliage. Portlands are like 'perpetual' Damasks with incredible fragrance and strong colors. Some sources say Portlands are not so hardy, but our experience has been the opposite. They make a nice shaped bush with thick foliage and gorgeous flowers. If you don't have a lot of room to work with they are the perfect old garden rose.

Category: Hybrid Perpetuals
The origin of the Hybrid Perpetuals is difficult to establish because there were so many types of roses involved. Most seedlings produced by chance crosses and many of the better results were selected and named. They were called perpetual because of their ability to flower continuously, even though it wasn’t the case for many. Hybrid Perpetuals generally display strong growth with large, fully double, long lasting blooms. Most exhibit a strong fragrance. The color range goes from white and light pink to carmine and purple..

Mutabilis China (SOLD OUT) unknown date, before 1900
The orgins and date of this rose are unknown, however it was introduced to the marketplace in 1933. The reason this rose has continued to be popular all these years is because it is always in bloom and the flowers are ever changing color. They open yellow, go to orange, then pink and finally crimson. They bloom in small clusters and the stems are long and crimson. This rose is usually reported to be hardy only to zone 7 but we have several customers that grow it in Zone 6 climates. We love this rose so much we think it is worthwhile if you live in our zone 5 climate to put it in large pot where you can move it to a greenhouse or protected garage in the winter. $15.95

Own-Root Roses
All of our plants are container grown on their own roots rather than using the roots of another variety. This means they are pure, and grow only from their own, original ancestors. This also keeps the plants virus free, living longer, and gives them a more healthy, well-shaped bloom.
