While a professor of Horticulture at Iowa State University Dr. Griffith Buck succeeded in breeding roses that could withstand winters on the Iowa prairie. He produced 88 varieties that were healthy, beautiful, and virtually disease free. Some of the names are interesting, reflecting the western prairie influence, and the roses are absolutely wonderful. They can be exhibited on their own, grouped together, or used as hedges.
