Favorite annual: too many to name, but anything that trails out of my pots. Favorite plant to grow: Pumpkins. My children and grandchildren count on it every year. Always a joy to watch them pick one out for Halloween. Favorite tool: small clippers (always in my back pocket). Also under this category you could add twist ties and note pad and pen. Favorite gloves: Atlas (the light weight grey ones) they are a good everything work glove. Favorite time of day: Early morning, when the birds are waking and the dew is still on the roses. Beautiful.

Favorite Perennial: Right now, I'm in love with my Geranium 'Rosanne'. It flowers constantly from June til frost, unlike other varieties that stop after late June or July. These are great front of the border plants and play nicely with others. For that reason I have over a dozen of these in my own garden.
Favorite Shrub: This is a tough one as I have several, but after seeing the potential for Physocarpus 'Diablo' or 'Diabolo' depending on the who you bought it from…this maroon foliaged, large shrub can be hedged or pruned to be an upright small tree. This year I'm going to try one in a container as it can withstand temps down to -40 or lower!
Favorite Tool: I have two that you'll notice are strapped to me at all times when I'm in the garden, just like my arms. One is my Felco pruner (#8) ; the other my Hori Hori knife which I use not only to weed, but also to transplant little seedlings as I see them in the wrong spot.
Favorite Annual: Again I have lots, but because I didn't list them as perennials, I love my pansies which this past year, not only survived the snowy winter we had (a record in Spokane since 1949-50) but the new varieties bloom constantly through the hot summers here! Amazing and the blues and purples go so nicely with all my roses.
Favorite Vine: After attending lectures and seeing the garden of famed Clematis expert, Linda Beutler, I've become passionate about Clematis. I now have over 100 varieties in my own garden and plan on continuing to collect them until I have as many as Linda does…over 300!!!

Favorite Rose: Strike it Rich is our favorite rose. My daughter got this rose, and it just blooms all summer long with golden blooms that decorate the view from her bedroom window.
Favorite Shrub: I put another rose in this class. My favorite shrub is Watercolors, which has a simple five petal flower that changes pastel colors from the first day of bloom until the second and last day it stays on the plant. Not to worry about only a two day flower life, this rose constantly puts out blooms and is a nice color spot in a garden.

Favorite Annual: Tomatoes, these plants are fun to grow, and you get homemade catsup and sauce if they produce more than you can eat fresh off the vine. Each year I like to experiment with new varieties, but keep to heirloom types.
Favorite Perennial: This would have to be peonies. I place them so their dark green foliage complements my roses.
Favorite Tool: This would have to be my loppers. Pruning back trees, shrubs, and large rose canes you need a sharp lopper to make an easy cut and prevent damage to the plant. Aggressive pruning helps work off frustrations and allows light to penetrate so I can grow more plants with less disease.
